Bath tub and shower surround?

I want to remove an old cast iron bathtub that just looks horrible and replace it with a shower tub combo. However, there is an old double sash window on what will be the back back wall as you face the shower.

I am told I can still use this installation and simply cut in the window and install vinyl trim all around the window so it remains a functional window.

Anyone ever tried this? Anything I should look out for?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!Bath tub and shower surround?
Hey Bryan i have been doing plumbing work for over 20 yrs and i have seen this (window cut into surround) 2 times and both times the window started to rot out after about 1 year even with the vinyl trim on the window.

If you can do with out it just cover over the window with the surround. put nice shade or blinds on window remove trim around window put plywood over it and install surround will look nice inside and look like you still have a window from the out sideBath tub and shower surround?
25 years ago we put in a tub surround with a window on the back wall and trimmed it with wood trim painted with good enamel paint. We dressed the window with slatted vinyl blinds that were 2 or 3 inches larger than the window top bottom and sides. We never had problems with the window but did replace the blinds numerous times because of mildew stains. Because I love having the window I am getting ready to do it all over again this week. This time with a new vinyl clad window trimmed with vinyl and I will use the pleated shades that can be opened from the top or bottom. Use common sense, You have to protect the window from moisture as much as possible and it must be able to dry out when it does get wet. Seal everything and keep it sealed. Good Luck.
there is a lot of work in doing that cause you have to change the plumbing and also the drian plus you also have to install concreate floor board and water proof dryway i would contact a pro to do the job for cause you also have the windows to worry about they do not make surround if there is a window with in the area . plus it is a old double shas windows that has the weights in the wall that will have to be remove and replaced with a new window
Save the old cast iron tub -- get a good pro co. to refinish it- cast iron tubs are nice (deep, hold the heat nice....) it will look new. A good wall surround w/ a window kit the bath will look new!! it will cost 1/3 the price and time. Neil/ Munro products
I would get a professional tile man, and have him lay a custom surround, he will work around the window and make it look very professional.

I just had a custom shower laid, and I love it
