A bath with no shower, how to add a shower head?

Do I need to take out drywall and run a short bit of pipe up higher to supply a shower head? How should I go about doing this? I should probably tile the wall in there also, since it is a regular wall around the tubA bath with no shower, how to add a shower head?
I would first find out the easiest way to get to the tub valve. determine if the tub valve is a divert-er valve if it is then remove the plug and extend the pipe up the wall for the shower head if it isn't then you would have to install the proper tub/shower valve. The walls should be tiled or you can install a Fiberglas tub surround but be sure that the drywall is waterproof IE. green board or duo-rock.A bath with no shower, how to add a shower head?
A real and temporary fix is to go to a harware store (or even a Target or Wal-Mart) and get yourself a shower head with a rubber or plastic hose that can be attached to the bath faucet.

It'll cost $5 to $15.... not aesthetic but can be temporary. The good thing about this though is that you can put it away AND if you don't actually own the property.

Otherwise you will have to take out the drywall, get a long pipe to attach to the faucet (you might have to replace the faucet if it does not have a place for a extension pipe)... you will definitely have to tile the walls.
