I had my baby vaginally, I have been taking showers but really like taking baths. I have my daughter over a week ago.How long after having a baby can I take a bath instead of a shower?
I took baths as soon as I was home from the hospital. They recommend it to help ease the pain. I probably took 3 baths a day the first couple weeks. Just dont use any bath products, and make sure you rinse off really well. As long as your doc didnt tell you NOT to take baths, you are fine. How long after having a baby can I take a bath instead of a shower?
I was told 6 weeks even though I had a c-section. I am not a shower person so was thrilled when the 6 weeks was up.
You can take baths immediately after delivering vaginally. The water will help you heal if you had an episiotomy (sp?), or if you tore. If you still are sore on your bottom, take a bath in epsom salt. You can buy it at almost any grocery store, target, walmart or walgreens.
Congratulations on your new bundle!
just be very careful
i took a bath 2 days after... it is totally up too you...
the doctors say to wait 2weeks but my doula said you can take one as soon as you get home if you want. she said the studies have shown baths not to be bad afterall. i took a bath a few days after and i was fine
On average it takes about 6 weeks for your cervix to close after a vaginal birth. While the cervix is still dilated, any bacteria that enters your vagina has an unobstructed path to your uterus. Until the cervix closes you would be better off taking showers to avoid the risk of a uterine infection! (This is also the reason OBs recommend waiting 6 weeks before resuming sexual activity)
the doctor usually wants you to take cists baths to dissolve the stitches and to clean that area. So a bath should be fine.. I would just watch the kind of soaps you use so they don't irritate you.
CONGRADULATIONS ON YOUR NEW BABY GIRL!
