I have replaced the washer in the old shower head by using a completely new shower head. I have also replaced the tub spout and wrapped teflon tape around all of the threaded areas of both the spout and the shower. The shower only leaks whenever the bath water is running but the bath spout does NOT leak when the shower is running. Any suggestions? My shower head leaks when the bath water is running. What do I do? ?
plunger or valve is going or gone try changing it , take it out and take it to a hardware store and find the same and replace it the same way you took it out , it's very easy to do My shower head leaks when the bath water is running. What do I do? ?
The way the spout and shower work is with a diverter. When the diverter is open the water is allowed to flow out the spout. When the diverter is closed water pressure builds up and the water finds it's way out through the shower head.
If water comes out of the shower head when the diverter is supposed to be open I would check to see if the diverter is damaged. On many tubs the diverter is a metal gate that slides up and down very near the spout opening. You might be able to feel in the opening of the spout to see how much the diverter moves when the diverter rod is pulled. If the diverter doesn't go all of the way up it can create enough back pressure to send water out the shower head even when water is flowing out of the spout. This can also be caused by having too much water pressure or volume at the tub.
If your diverter is located in the spout like most are you may be able to solve the problem by replacing the spout.
try checking to see if the valve behind the wall is not installed upside down it usually has an indicator lettering facing up. it it is that is why you get water out of your shower head as well as your spout.
